Kim-
Where do I even begin?
Most entrepreneurs decide to leave Corporate America because they hate sitting at a desk from 9 to 5, and reporting to someone else. It’s true I hate sitting at a desk all day. I wish that I could say I hated reporting to you, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. However, it would make leaving Adidas and you a lot easier.
I think you already know, but I want to express to you again that deciding to leave Adidas has been THE hardest decision I have made thus far in my adult career. Am I scared shitless? Absolutely. Am I excited? Yes. Do I know I can do it? Without a doubt. Why? Because of you, you are the reason I know I can and I will succeed in the next chapter of my life. You have taught me more about myself, life and what I want in this life in just a few years. I honestly don’t think I would have the passion, drive or courage to take this next step in my life if it weren’t for you.
My friends are constantly asking me, where can I find a Kim? How do I get a mentor like Kim? I never know how to answer because I’m not sure what I did in this life to win the jackpot of having you in my life.
When I first met you, I was just your family babysitter, then your intern, then your full-time employee. Somehow along the way you also became a mentor and friend. I can only hope that one day I am half the boss you are. You deal with so much of the not so pretty parts of Corporate America and still manage to make each and every one of your employees feel like their voice matters and you hear them.
I’m not sure I will ever be able to thank you enough for everything you have given me, but I’m going to try.
Thank you for…
-
Taking a chance on me four years ago when I was just a college student and knew NOTHING about Photoshop, Indesign or myself.
-
Teaching me how to brush off the BS and continue focusing on the task that is right in front of me.
-
The freedom to make mistakes and learn from them.
-
Being patient with me every time I would walk into your office and ask: Why? Why? Why? Like your 6-year-old daughter.
-
Showing me not only what a good boss and mentor should be, but also what a great leader should be.
-
The courage to believe in myself and abilities to build a marketing department from the ground up.
-
The passion and fire to make Adidas #oneadidas. I will carry that passion and fire with me.
-
The tough skin and balls I know it is going to take to succeed in this next chapter of my life.
-
The memories.
Sincerely,
Your Buzzing Blonde
